DR. JACK KAVANAUGH AND THE TURNING POINT OF HIS LIFE
Turning points often come from the dark moments of life and drive people
towards the direction of success. A similar thing happened with Jack Kavanaugh,
a reputed dentist who met with a tragedy. However, he took it in an optimistic
way and turned himself into a great businessman and ophthalmologist.
For almost a decade, Dr.JackKavanaugh practiced dentistry in Beverly Hills and handled several
clinics in Nevada. In an unfortunate accident, he broke his neck and one leg
that ultimately stopped him from continuing his career. However, he didn’t give
up at that moment rather went to the University of California, Los Angeles and
earned his MBA degree.
After this, Kavanaugh worked in mergers and acquisitions and in the year
1984, he co-founded the International Strategy Consulting group. After
stabilizing his career in private equity, he went to the University of Southern
California and did his M.D. degree. He has completed his residency from the
Jules Stein Institute, UCLA.
During the first year of his residency, Kavanaugh founded Amerident, a
health care provider with a focus on baby bottle syndrome. The
firm earned more than 30 community service awards and one state congressional
medal of honor. He has alsoco-founded Novonco Therapeutics, Inc., with Dr.
David Horne and Dr. Larry Overman. The firm focuses on different approaches to
cancer therapeutics.
He held the first board meeting of Calhoun Vision, Inc., at his home.
This biotechnology firm created the first light adjustable intraocular lens for
cataract surgery. He is also the founder of ZetaRx Biosciences, Inc., a leading
firm in immunotherapy for treating cancer. The company was later on sold and it
became an important part of Juno Therapeutics.
Apart from these, Jack Kavanaugh has served the boards of PreCash, a
company offering telecommunications and financial services. After he staved off
the insolvency, the firm turned out to be one of the fastest-growing companies
in the U.S. In the late 80s, Jack brought Tech Team which was later known as
Team Global, public. Under his direction, the price of shares rose from 11
cents to $27 per share.
